Here are the three maps I developed in Quantum QGIS during the period of my research. The first map is a visualization of homelessness and unemployment in Mississippi according to the CWRGM letters. The second is a visualization of contraband camps overlaid on the freed African American population by 1870. Finally, the third is the freed African American population in Mississippi by 1870.

All of these maps use the 1870 county boundaries for Mississippi and are overlaid onto a Google Maps basemap.

In my research, I found that homelessness is linked to the history of urban slavery according to the correlation show by my map. The federal government during Reconstruction paid little attention to African American freed people outside of how they could potentially be used to generate capital, even if that meant re-enslaving them.

This section will house my final paper and presentation. Both are downloadable.
